The lower frame is a combination of iron and wood, the top frame is exclusively of iron, and securely bolted to the lower frame, making the mill self contained, including the feed works. The upper and lower saw mandrels are made of cast steel, and run in the best anti-friction metal boxes. The main driving pulley is placed outside of the framing, enabling the off-bearer_to remove the lum- ber, slabs, etc., without coming in contact with either the main belt or carriage. The upper saw man- drel is adjustable, and can be rigidly held at any desired point.
